Guidelines for Hajj

• The first day of Hajj is the 8th day of the month of Dhul Hijjah. Pilgrims wear the Ihram while inside Mecca and proceed to Mina. Pilgrims camp in Mina, where there are hundreds of thousands of air-conditioned tents. They spend their time in Mina praying.
• Pilgrims move towards the Maidan of Arafat, and one’s Hajj is considered to be rendered invalid if he does not spend the afternoon there. Pilgrims spend their time till sunset and starts their journey again to Muzdalifah after sunset. Collecting stones for stoning the Devil the next day is a significant part of the journey. Pilgrims stays the night at an open area of Muzdalifah, in the open air.
• Pilgrims travel back to Mina and proceed towards Jamarat bridge. Pilgrims throw seven pebbles at the devil, a symbolic expression of resentment to the ‘Shaitan’. After stoning the devil, pilgrims offer their sacrifice of animal/s to the almighty Allah.

Guidelines for Umrah

Umrah can be performed anytime except the Hajj season which lasts around 2 months. For performing Umrah in a complete sense there are some rites that must be performed.

Umrah is Sunnat Mu’akidah

How to do Umrah ?

1. Ihram
   Start Umrah by entering the state of Ihram. Through Ihram pilgrims avoid unnecessary attention. Muslim men & women, willing to perform Umrah have to set Niyyat of Umrah and recite Talbiya before Meqat & wear special clothing that is designed only for the purpose of performing Hajj & Umrah.
2. Tawaf
   Tawaf refers to encompassing or walking in circles around the Kaaba in an anti-clockwise motion. Seven complete drifts constitute one Tawaf. The number 7 is often used in Arabic in the sense of “many”, rather than the precise number.
3. Sa’yee
   Performing Sa’yee between the hills of Safa and Marwah that is walking between them seven times completes the Umrah. A walk from Safa to Marwah and back to Safa from Marwah makes two rounds.
4. Shaving or clipping off the hair
   After stepping out from the state of Ihram men would have to shave their heads and women will cut their hair an inch from the tip.
